The first edition was published in 1987. ISO 9001 saw revisions in 1994, 2000, and 2008. The most recent revision was released in September of this year.
ISO 9001.1994 included a number of changes to improve the control clause for design and development. It also provided other clarifications. The role of ISO 9002, 9003 was altered slightly in the 1994 series.
